Fairtrade is the description used for the certification and labelling system governed by FLO. This system allows consumers to identify goods produced under agreed labour and environmental standards. The broader term Fair Trade describes the Fair Trade movement as a whole. This means that it can be used also for unlabelled goods.

In the definition of FLO e.V., "the Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International" (FLO) is part of a worldwide network of Fair Trade organizations involved in supporting producers, awareness-raising and campaigning for changes in the rules and practices of conventional international trade.
The certification body of Fairtrade Labelling is FLO-CERT GmbH. FLO-CERT is an independent international certification company offering Fairtrade certification services. FLO-CERT assists producers in the socio-economic development and helps to foster long-term relationships and good practice with traders of Fairtrade-certified products.
